Starting next week, you’ll have a great excuse to enjoy the outdoors, share a beer with friends and work up a sweat. The inaugural HIIT-N-Hops workout series will partner with the Milwaukee County Parks’ Traveling Beer Gardens for a five-class outdoor workout series and happy hour.
The 45-minutes of high-intensity interval training (a.k.a HIIT) in the park is much more tolerable knowing it’s followed by socializing over beer. Expect bodyweight exercises, running, jumping and other movements using any and all props in the parks like picnic tables, benches, jungle gyms, sand volleyball pits and more.
The nice thing is that high-intensity means something different to everyone, so HIIT workouts are perfect for any fitness ability and cater to a large group of people at different levels.
“We choose HIIT workouts because they incorporate both strength training and cardiovascular exercises,” says trainer Eric Gramza. “HIIT training is highly effective, efficient with your time and in a group setting, elicits camaraderie as well as friendly competition,”
Gramza will also offer modifications for each exercise for those who need it.
“If you are new to exercise this a great way to get started with a workout you can do at your own pace. And if you are an avid workout enthusiast, this is an excellent way for you to change things up and really push your exercise intensity limits,” he says.
The workout schedule is:
- June 1 – Greenfield Park (West Allis)
- June 22 – Froemming Park (Franklin)
- June 29 – Grant Park (South Milwaukee)
- July 20 – Scout Lake (Greendale)
- August 16 – Greene Park (St. Francis)
Workouts start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and take place in the parks rain or shine. The social hour begins at 7:15 p.m. Be sure to bring your own water for the workout (no, beer doesn’t count).
