Milwaukee Will Host State’s Second-Ever College Football Bowl Game

The Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl will be on Nov. 19.

Milwaukee will host the second-ever college football bowl game in Wisconsin this fall when the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl takes place at Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Raabe Stadium.

The bowl game, which will be held Nov. 19, will feature two teams from a pair of Midwest NCAA Division III football conferences – the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

“We are thrilled to host the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl in the Milwaukee area and in one of our esteemed colleges,” said Marissa Werner, director of Sports Milwaukee, a division of Visit Milwaukee, the area’s convention and vistors’ bureau. “Milwaukee is a truly unique and vibrant sports destination and Lakefront Bowl student-athletes and spectators will get to experience our special brand of team spirit for themselves this fall.”

Midwest Conference members are Beloit College, Cornell College, Grinnell College, Illinois College, Knox College, Lake Forest College, Lawrence University, Monmouth College and Ripon College. The University of Chicago also participates in football.

“The opportunity the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl presents for a Midwest Conference football team to extend its playing season with an additional competition against another regional Division III league’s top performing team is one that our coaches are very excited about,” MWC Executive Director Heather Benning said.

In addition to event host Wisconsin Lutheran College, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference members include Alverno College, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University Wisconsin, Dominican University, Edgewood College, Illinois Institute of Technology, Lakeland University, Marian University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Rockford University and St. Norbert College. Eureka College also participates in football.

“We are continually striving to find ways to improve the student-athlete experience and to provide opportunities for our students to participate in post-season events,” NACC Commissioner Jeff Ligney said. “The Lakefront Bowl will help the NACC in both of those initiatives.”

Lakefront Bowl sponsor Cousins Subs has been in business for 50 years. The company and its franchisees operate nearly 100 sub-sandwich shops in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

“Cousins Subs was founded on its commitment to serve others and give back to the communities we call home,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Menomonee Falls-based Cousins Subs. “We still live by that commitment and are honored to support the Lakefront Bowl and further our commitment to the communities of Southeastern Wisconsin.”

The first football bowl game to be held in Wisconsin occurred last November. In the inaugural Culver’s Isthmus Bowl, contested at Verona High School’s Wildcat Stadium, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls defeated Washington University of St. Louis 48-27. The bowl featured teams from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Culver’s Isthmus Bowl will return this fall but the venue will shift to Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field in Dane County and be held on the same day as the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl.

“They are familiar with the success of last year’s inaugural Isthmus Bowl and appreciate the invitation to be part of something similar,” Benning said of the opportunity to participate in the Lakefront Bowl.

Tickets for the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl go on sale Oct. 1 and are $15. Kick-off time will be determined at a later date. Additional event information can be found at
