Here’s to the green beer, corned beef and cabbage
In Milwaukee, St. Patrick’s Day observations encompass much of the month of March. And given that it’s perfectly acceptable to drink green beer and tell people to kiss you (even if you aren’t actually Irish), we’re not mad about it. In a city of Irish heritage and dedicated beer drinkers, it only makes sense Milwaukee goes all out for the holiday. Here’s your guide to some of the top events around the city.
Miller Time Pub
Help kick off the parade the night before! Come down to the Miller Time Pub to enjoy singers Ian Gould and Pat McCurdy in anticipation of the big event the following day.
3rd St. and Wisconsin
Join the city of Milwaukee for the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the city! Stepping off at noon, the holiday spectacle stretches its way downtown, ending at Water and Highland.
Celebrate all day, starting at 6 a.m. with a traditional Irish breakfast at County Clare on the Lower East Side. The day doesn’t start and stop with breakfast, though. Enjoy Celtic acts and performers all day until 10 p.m.
Milwaukee Public Museum
Did you ever want to learn how to dance like many of the Irish groups you see? Well, the Milwaukee Public Museum is hosting an event that finally promises you the opportunity. Starting at 1 p.m., a performance by Trinity Academy of Irish Dance will be followed by lessons for all. The event is free with the price of admission into the museum.
Celebrate your Irish pride by listening to live bands and enjoying a pint of beer at Mo’s Irish Pub. The party begins at 6 a.m. and continues into the night with bands like Romeo’s Charm and Dean Richard.
Red Lion Pub
Starting at 6 a.m., Red Lion Pub will be serving breakfast — start the holiday off right with a little Irish coffee on the side. The party will keep going with the outdoor patio bar, which will feature live Irish music, or relax inside and watch soccer as you drink your beer.
Three Lion’s Pub
Kensington Square, in front of the Three Lion’s Pub, will be shutting down in the name of St. Paddy’s Day to bring live music, Irish dancers and a panoply of Irish beer to attendees. Breakfast starts at 6 a.m. but the party will go into the night, even after the block party finishes. And they’ll keep the live music going inside the pub, starting around 9:30 p.m.
Sam’s Tap // Straight Shots // Lee’s Luxury Lanes // The Backyard // Dale Z’s
If you missed the Shamrock Shuffle, there’s another crawl waiting for you: Head down to Bay View to take part in this festive bar crawl, which begins at 1 p.m. At the end of the crawl, there’s even a chance to win a $125 bar tab!
World of Beer
It’s not St. Patrick’s Day without beer! Head out to World of Beer in Wauwatosa and enter to win a trip to Ireland. The bar will offer deals on Irish drinks, and if you’re feeling hungry, there will be corned beef sandwiches with chips while supplies last. Stick around for Saddlebrook, performing from 8 to 11 p.m. as well.
A whole day of celebrating is happening at Kelly’s Bleachers on St. Patrick’s Day. Start off your morning with free breakfast from 7 to 8 a.m. (and be one of the first 75 people through the door to get a free t-shirt). Stay for the DJ, beer pong, and the green beer, flowing all day long!
