We’re happy to see these Milwaukee Queens crowned.
Evidently the rest of the world loves Milwaukee’s drag queens almost as much as we do. Because the venerable New York Magazine has named two Brew City drag queens and Ru Paul alums among the most powerful in America. Specifically, Jaymes Mansfield (Season 9, 14th place) cracked the top 100. And Trixie Mattel (Season 7, 6th place; Season 3 All Stars, 1st place) earned the no. 4 spot. Both used to perform at Hamburger Mary’s regularly, and can still be seen around town every once in a while.
In honor of the momentous occasion, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite drag queen stories from years past (and present):

A drag queen and the manager of Hamburger Mary’s chat about the state of drag.
“We all know that we did a great job. Those poor judges really have to split wig hairs.”
Trixie Mattel (real name Brian Firkus) was the first Milwaukee contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” She’s only just begun.
And don’t forget that even though our official PrideFest is over, Pride celebrations are still going strong around the city!
