Milwaukee Candle Co. Launches MKE Cleanup Series

The first cleanup of the three-week series is on Sunday, April 7 at Mitchell Park.

Milwaukee Candle Co is kicking off its first ever MKE Cleanup Series at Mitchell Park on Sunday morning, in an effort to highlight community engagement and preserve Milwaukee’s iconic neighborhoods.

Partnering with local organizations like Friends of the Domes and Walker’s Point Association, Milwaukee Candle Co will host cleanup events the first three weekends of April.

The candle company, as part of its Hometown Collection that features different Milwaukee locations and events, launched a candle with Friends of the Domes last month – the Tropical Dome candle. The MKE Cleanup Series was born out of the simultaneous planning for community outreach for the spring season and the collaboration with Friends of the Domes.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

“As we were talking with Friends of the Domes, they had mentioned that Mitchell Park always needs revitalization, and as we were continuing to work with them and going back to the Domes and seeing the park, we noticed there was a ton of trash just littered around,” said Wes Marse, business operations manager at Milwaukee Candle Co. “So, our initial thought was, ‘Great. Let’s continue our collaboration with the Domes by doing a Mitchell Park cleanup.’ As we were doing that, we thought, ‘Well, let’s not only focus on Mitchell Park, Let’s expand upon that.’”

On Sunday, April 7, volunteers can meet at the flagpole in front of the Domes, before contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of one of Milwaukee’s cherished green spaces. On April 14, focus shifts to Bradford Beach, where community members are encouraged to meet at the pavilion to partake in a beach cleanup. The series will conclude on April 21 in Walker’s Point, the home base of Milwaukee Candle Co. Volunteers will meet at Zócalo Food Truck Park and clean up the neighborhood.

“Really, the inspiration for it was to continue to give back to the community that gives so much to us – really what makes what we do possible,” said Marse.

At each cleanup, Milwaukee Candle Co will provide free coffee, music and supplies, and every volunteer will receive a voucher for a free eco-friendly wax melt, a new product to be released on Earth Day, April 22.

“It’s a great opportunity to get out there and meet your neighbors and help support our local community in more ways,” said Marse.

These events do not require registration, though, prospective volunteers can visit the MKE Cleanup Series Facebook page for more information.
