Tuesday marked a huge day in Milwaukee Bucks news. The team announced that star player Giannis Antetokounmpo and fan favorite Bobby Portis will both be traded to the Miami Heat. You can read more about the deal in our story here.
In honor of the two players, Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 enlisted 15 local venues, landmarks and buildings to light up green on Tuesday night, including the Hoan Bridge and the Mitchell Park Domes.

Tell us who you’d pick to be a Betty this year!
Participating buildings will be illuminated with green lights starting at 8:30 p.m. and going through dawn on Wednesday.
The buildings include:
- 1522 on the Lake
- 330 Kilbourn
- 600 EAST
- 833 East Michigan
- Discovery World
- GRAEF
- Hyatt Regency Milwaukee
- Lakefront Brewery
- The Hoan Bridge
- MGIC
- Milwaukee County Historical Society
- Mitchell Park Domes
- Pritzlaff Building
- US Bank Center
- Zizzo Group Building
Antetokounmpo and Portis were both part of the Bucks’ 2021 NBA Championship win – the franchise’s first championship in 50 years. (And Portis was the subject of our December 2022 cover story.)
“To acknowledge there will never be another like [Antetokounmpo] is not nearly acknowledging enough,” Howie Magner writes in our story about the trade. “Yes, the Bucks will be good again someday. They will, eventually, find another star, and he might even make them NBA champions again. But never like Giannis did. There’s a reason Disney made his story into a movie.”
