The USL League One pro soccer team Forward Madison announced Thursday morning that Wauwatosa’s Hart Park will be its temporary home field this season.
Although the USL announced in June that the 2020 season would begin July 18, health restrictions in Dane County prevent Forward Madison from playing on their home field this year.
Kuba Krzyzostaniak, Forward Madison’s director of fan engagement and digital media, said the team considered several alternative venues throughout the state. Though it’s a bit of a drive from Madison, Hart Park was the best choice because the large grandstands will allow fans to social distance and watch matches safely, Krzyzostaniak said.
Forward Madison’s usual venue is Breese Stevens Field, which has a capacity of 5,000. Hart Park has a capacity of 4,900 but will operate at 1,347 this season to accommodate social distancing.
The team will follow the USL Return to Play guidelines, as well as additional safety protocols at Hart Park. These precautions, which are approved by the Wauwatosa Health Department, include mandatory face coverings for guests, less than 30% grandstand capacity, and increased sanitization before, during and after each match.
The team will practice at the Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
“Forward Madison remains committed to hosting events that are responsible and taking the utmost precautions to keep its fans, players, and staff safe,” said Senior Ticket Sales Representative and Latino Outreach Manager Jovan Chavez in an email.
The team’s first home match will be announced within 24 hours, and you can expect to see the full season schedule sometime next week. Once that’s available, season ticket holders can select which matches they plan to attend or defer their tickets until the 2021 season.
