Although the Milwaukee Film staff has been tirelessly scouring the festival circuit since the 2015 vintage ended in an attempt to bring the very best of the best to you for their 2015 edition, the first real sign that our beloved film festival is making its way back to us sooner than later is when the call for entries is opened, and as of today, this is the case! Unlike many other film festivals across the country, there is no entry fee for submitting your work, so if you’re putting the finishing touches on a passion project or have an idea that can be whipped up in just a few months time (the deadline is Monday, June 22) there’s absolutely no reason not to submit.
Only one submission per filmmaker, and there are some other rules and regulations you can delve into more deeply here. And as a reminder, the Milwaukee Film Festival will once again offer the Cream City Cinema section, rewarding locally-based talent for their filmmaking prowess. And this year, the opportunity for films to compete in this category has become even easier – whereas in previous years the director(s), producer(s) or screenwriter(s) had to currently live in Milwaukee, Racine, Waukesha, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Walworth or Washington counties in order to qualify, the MFF has opened it up so cinematographer, editor, sound editor or lead cast member(s) can also qualify a film for competition, with a $5,000 cash award to the film that takes home the jury prize. I look forward to seeing what the local film scene has cooked up from Sept. 24 to Oct. 8 when MFF 2015 takes place.
