The Republican National Committee on Friday announced that is has officially selected Milwaukee, in an unanimous vote, as host of the 2024 Republican National Convention.
“Milwaukee is a world-class city and we are eager to see it shine in the spotlight come 2024,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said. “I look forward to working with the members of the Republican National Committee, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, the Milwaukee Host Committee and Visit Milwaukee to deliver an incredible convention for our party and nominate the next president of the United States.”
Johnson said the convention will provide a positive economic impact for Milwaukee.
“My city is ready to show the world what a great destination we are for conventions and tourism,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that he expects convention attendees to find Milwaukee to be “a splendid location for the event.”

The Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee revealed last month that it had chosen Milwaukee to host its national convention in 2024, so Friday’s announcement certainly didn’t come as a surprise.
The Milwaukee Host Committee said in a statement that the convention will be a “transformative economic investment” and position Milwaukee to be among the top destinations for business and leisure. “We can’t wait to welcome the Republican National Convention to Milwaukee in 2024 to show its attendees and the world Milwaukee’s world-class venues, attractions, restaurants, hotels and all of the other amenities,” Visit Milwaukee president and CEO Peggy Williams-Smith said. “We’re thrilled to work with the members of the Republican National Committee, the Milwaukee Host Committee and the city of Milwaukee to put on what we know will be the best Republican National Convention yet.”
The RNC had narrowed its host city choices to Milwaukee and Nashville.
However, Nashville council members recently voted down a draft agreement to host the convention, for all intents and purposes formally removing the Tennessee city from the running. The Nashville vote came even though the Republic National Committee already had been expected to announce Milwaukee as its choice. The Nashville council cited concerns about risks involved with hosting political conventions as a main driver behind the decision.
Milwaukee will now get a second shot at hosting a national political convention four years after a pandemic-hobbled Democratic National Convention.
