Big outdoor music festivals typically wreak havoc on the environment. Those beer cups, plastic water bottles and greasy food wrappers really add up as a crowd grows in size. But the conservationist solution doesn’t need to be quit having music festivals. Rather, this Saturday’s Rock the Green provides the design for future, more sustainable festivals that aim to reduce waste for a lighter eco-footprint.
Ticketholders receive a complimentary aluminum water bottle upon entry that can be re-filled at numerous fresh water stations free of charge. The festival also utilizes alternative fuel sources, running entirely from B20 biodiesel generators and bicycle power and more energy-efficient LED lights provide illumination at night.
That festival takes place along the waterfront in Reed Street Yards, S. 3rd Street and Freshwater Way, and features an Eco-Kids Stage for children, organic food from local vendors, a pedal-powered stage featuring local music from NO/NO, Foreign Goods, Great Lake Drifters and New Age Narcissism and a main stage with national headliners Lord Huron, Robert DeLong, Best Coast, The Heavy and Thao & The Stay Down Get Down. The festival is free for kids 10 and under. Tickets range from $35-$75 and are available here. The full schedule is available below:

Stream of the Week
Newcomer Thane wasted very little time following up on July’s impressive Gravity EP, an eclectic amalgamation of R&B, jazz and electronic music. The 12-song full-length Topia builds off that momentum and justifies why the producer is one of the most electrifying musical voices coming out of Milwaukee right now. The album boasts remarkable guest appearances, including Anderson .Paak, BJ The Chicago Kid, Mick Jenkins, Low Leaf and Kojey Radical.
