The Culinary Side of the Milwaukee Film Fest

6 foodie films on our dining critic’s list at this year’s Milwaukee Film Festival.

It would be an understatement to say my friend Tarik Moody and I are a little excited about Milwaukee Film Fest and six food-related movies they’re running this year (Sept 28-Oct. 12). Tarik and I talk about what we can’t wait to see at the fest on this week’s edition of This Bites (Fridays, 8 a.m. on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee).

One of my picks, Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table – about the the woman whose seminal New Orleans’ restaurants helped launch the careers of chefs Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse – is screening at Fox Bay Cinema Grill (Oct. 7) and the Downer Theatre (Oct 11 and 12).

More highlights from this episode: the American Steakhouse dinner this weekend at EsterEv, the restaurant inside the Third Ward’s Dandan; a barrel-aged cocktail-making class at Mason Street Grill; and the return of our favorite Alton Brown-helmed show, Good Eats.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
