Friday- Signs of life but not enough

Some things to read while picking your head back up. While most of Wisconsin watched the Green Bay Packers lose their season-opener Thursday night, the Milwaukee Brewers were also in action, and also losing. Their 3-2 defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals was their ninth consecutive loss, and Adam McCalvy of MLB.com has a recap, if you missed it. The Brewers had their opportunities against Michael Wacha and six Cardinals relievers, but left 11 men on base over nine innings. Wacha pitched just three innings in the game in his first start after nearly three months…

Thursday- On freefall and hope

Some things to read while looking for your wheels. The Milwaukee Brewers’ longest losing streak of the season was extended to eight games on Wednesday night as they lost 6-2 to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Derek Harvey of Brew Crew Ball has a recap, if you missed it. After more than a month on the shelf, Matt Garza’s return to active duty didn’t go as planned. He allowed six runs on eight hits and lasted just three innings Wednesday before giving way to Marco Estrada. Estrada and three other relievers combined to pitch five scoreless innings, but the…

Wednesday- Still sliding

We have lots of Brewer news to discuss, but all of it pales in comparison to this morning’s breaking news: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Brewers amateur scouting director Bruce Seid has passed away. He was just 53 years old.  Seid had been the Brewers’ director of amateur scouting since 2008, and before, that he spent 11 years in the organization as a scout and crosschecker. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the team during this difficult time. Obviously, we’ll hear much more about Seid in the coming days, but Haudricourt had…

Tuesday- Six down

Some things to read while waiting for the right moment.   The Milwaukee Brewers have spent 150 days in first place this season, a franchise record set during a season in which very few of us expected it. That didn’t make it any easier to stomach, however, when they lost 4-2 to the Chicago Cubs and fell out of the National League Central lead for the first time since April. Noah Jarosh of Brew Crew Ball has a recap, if you missed it. The Brewers have now lost six consecutive games. After Monday’s loss, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel…

Monday- Laboring down the stretch

Some things to read while covering the hard-hitting stories. The Milwaukee Brewers’ 1-0 start to their West Coast road trip is nothing but a distant memory now after the Crew lost their fifth consecutive game on Sunday, a 15-5 drubbing at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. Noah Jarosh of Brew Crew Ball has a recap, if you missed it. The Brewers held a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning on Sunday, but things unraveled quickly, as the Giants tied the game in the second, scored three runs in the third, and scored in the fifth and sixth…
