Cafe Corazón in Bay View Tentatively Set to Open Feb. 11

Like its Riverwest sister, the Bay View location will serve its stiff margaritas and menu of Mexican delights. Plus a few surprises.

Café Corazón (3129 N. Bremen St.) is synonymous with Riverwest. That quirky-charming building with the Day of the Dead theme. Potent margaritas. Burritos, tacos, burgers and so on (with some ingredients coming from the family farm). Many vegan menu choices, if that’s your jam. And soon you won’t need to trek to Riverwest to get your Corazón fix. The Bay View location is tentatively scheduled to open on Thursday, Feb. 11. The space (2394 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) was once known as Johnnie’s Club Carnival. I suspect the interior bears little resemblance to that. Co-owner George Mireles calls this project the “most challenging renovation” he’s ever done. His wife-business partner Wendy Mireles says to expect a similar menu, “with some surprises,” owing to having a slightly larger kitchen. The opening is pending final inspection. More info to come.
