A big week of beer events serves as a warmup for Wisconsin beer fans heading to the Great Taste of the Midwest on Saturday.

Monday, Aug. 7

The Barley to Barrel brewery incubator program for fall is now accepting applications. The Crafter Space’s outstanding 10-week program for prospective brewers runs from late August until October.


Tuesday, Aug. 8

Michigan’s Odd Side Ales is coming to Wisconsin and introducing their tasty brews with a tap takeover at Burnhearts (2599 S. Logan Ave.).

Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.) bids farewell to Brendan, the long time manager. Starting at 5 p.m., your first beer is free until the first keg runs dry.


Wednesday, Aug. 9

The Wild Wednesday Craft Beer Cruise hosts Ballast Point. Choose between 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Tickets are just $29.

The Milwaukee Beer Society changes things up a bit by tasting meads and ciders from 6 to 9 p.m. at Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.). Cost is $10.

Central Waters takes over the taps at Ray’s Growler Gallery at 5 p.m. Expect great stuff from Amherst.


Thursday, Aug. 10

Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln Ave.) hosts a tap takeover by six Minnesota breweries. Try brews from Surly, Bent Paddle, Schells, Lift Bridge, Fulton and Indeed from 6 to 10 p.m.

Tess (2499 N. Bartlett Ave.) hosts a five-course beer dinner with the outstanding 18th Street Brewing. The reception starts at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $58. Call 414-964-8377 to make a reservation.

Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow St.) hands out samples from Tyranena from 4 to 7 p.m.


Friday, Aug. 11

The Great Taste of the Midwest comes to Olin Park in Madison on Saturday. The bad news is that it’s sold out. The good news is that there are plenty of great beer-related things to do the night before.

It’s a big night at Milwaukee’s Craft Beer Garden at Humboldt Park (3000 S. Howell Ave.). Westallion, Gathering Place, Broken Bat and Dead Bird Brewing all take over the taps.

The third event the Limitless Grains Series at The Fermentorium (7481 Hwy 60, Cedarburg) pairs beer with cheese from Emmi Roth Creamery from 6 to 8 p.m. Register online.

Sprecher hands out samples at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 3 to 6 p.m.

Try samples from Toppling Goliath at Discount Liquor Waukesha from 4 to 6 p.m.


Saturday, Aug. 12

German beers are the subjects of the weekly free tasting at both Three Cellars locations (7228 S. 27th St. and N72 W13400 Lund Lane, Menomonee Falls) from 1 to 4 p.m.
