Valentine’s Day might look a bit different this year. People are trading in restaurants for kitchen tables, and dresses and suits for loungewear. However, now is the time to support your favorite local restaurants and order yourself a nice meal, along with a nice bottle of wine.
Balzac Wine Bar is having a special Valentine’s Day weekend take-home experience. They are featuring four of their Occhipinti wines and have assigned them to four courses.
For the first course, Balzac is offering a cheese course as well as their Pea Panna Cotta to choose from, along with a SP68 Rosso. For course number two, there is a Roasted Cauliflower dish and Trout Rillete paired with SP68 Bianco. Course three is a Vegan Mushroom Risotto and Smoked Beef Brisket along with a bottle of Siccagno. Course four is a Vegan Roasted Eggplant and Grilled Lamb Chop with IL Frappato. Finally, for dessert, there is sorbet and Red Velvet Cake that is paired with a cocktail or spirit of your choosing.
The SP68 Rosso is a blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola and is an easy-drinking red, with lots of character. The Bianco is a blend of Moscato di Alessandria (not sweet) and Albenello. It’s the type of wine that can be served alone or with food, giving off aromatic with citrus and nutty notes. The IL Frappato is oozing with bright cherry fruit and stylistically screams Italy. Last but not least, the Siccagno, which is similar to the Frappato, but instead has a darker profile with black cherry, tobacco, black licorice, and ash. However, it remains a Balzac staff favorite and is as elegant as any other wine choice.
As for the featured cocktail this weekend, it is a Cold Brew Rye Classic Old Fashioned. The Cold Brew is decaf.
