Morning Links for Sept. 10 2013

It’s another September day that thinks it’s mid August. Escape the heat with these cool reads. After a supposedly off-the-cuff  remark by Secretary of State John Kerry, Russia proposed that Syria surrender all its chemical weapons. And CNN is reporting that Syria has accepted. Many are skeptical of the plan, and the details still have to be worked out.  While her husband works on Syria, First Lady Michelle Obama is taking on another cause: sugary sodas. Obama and actress Eva Longoria will visit Watertown High School to promote drinking water rather than sugary sodas. It’s no coincidence that the town’s…

Album Review- The Fatty Acids – Boléro

The buildup to the release of The Fatty Acid’s Boléro has been truly incredible – a slick video announced the album and this Friday’s release show back in July. Since then, local media has been aflutter with speculation and reviews of the single and music video. Here at Music Notes, we’ve whole-heartedly jumped on that bandwagon. And with good reason: The Fatty Acids are making some of the best music in Milwaukee. And let me be the first to say that it doesn’t disappoint. The album opens with “Girls and Gods,” which slows down considerably in the middle but the…

Are There More Fatal Accidents When the Packers Are Home or Away?

IDV Solutions released a “Football Game-Day Fatalities” map that looks at fatal car accidents on NFL game days – comparing away and home games. The map is based on drive time, team schedules and traffic fatality data. Although researcher John Nelson found no significant link between fatalities and home or away games – despite going into the process assuming otherwise – the results varied by city. In Cleveland, for example, 100 percent of accidents occurred when the team was away. In Jacksonville, on the other hand, almost 90 percent of accidents occurred when the team was at home. In Green…
