1. Vientiane Noodle Shop
CHELSEA MAMEROW, ART DIRECTOR
Soup season? Do we have to? Ok, fine. Vientiane Noodle Shop is well known for its delicious pho – I’ve even heard it called “the best in the city.” When I’m there, though, I go for the khao poun, another rice noodle soup. This one is in a red curry and coconut milk broth with galangal, lemongrass, lime leaves, chicken, bamboo shoots and fresh veggies. It’s a little spicy, plenty hearty and an apt weapon to wield against the cold weather lurking around the corner. 3422 W. National Ave.
2. The Bosch Tavern
KATIE WILLIAMS, ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER
I really miss Soup Bros in Walker’s Point. Could hardly pick a favorite there. My other favorite is the Navy Bean soup at The Bosch Tavern in Hales Corners. It’s a staple on their menu and something I thought I’d never like, until I tried it. 5871 S. 108 St., Hales Corners

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
3. Real Chili
CHRIS DROSNER, EXECUTIVE EDITOR
Can I count chili as soup? I can count chili as soup. Real Chili is good for lunch on any old day but sublime after a few High Lifes at whatever spot Downtown. Honorable mention to Camino, which also has a dynamite chili. 419 E. Wells St.

ARCHER PARQUETTE, MANAGING EDITOR
If Chris gets to count chili as soup, then I definitely get to count ramen as soup. As an undernourished youth, I only knew ramen as the cheap plastic-wrapped pack of noodles that I bought in big discount packs from Walmart. Then a couple years ago, I was introduced to the true and glorious possibilities of good ramen when I visited this Murray Avenue spot. The tonkotsu ramen is fantastic – pork, hard-boiled eggs, these little white and pink almost wafer things that I’m not totally sure what they are but they’re delicious. As the weather turns cold, I’ll be searching for warmth in a hearty bowl. 2321 N Murray Ave; 3rd Street Market Hall, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave.
5. The Soup Market
BRIANNA SCHUBERT, ASSOCIATE DIGITAL EDITOR
My loyalties in soup lie with my mother and her recipes, so I rarely feel the need to venture out for a bowl – it just won’t compare. But if I’m sick or in need of an immediate cozy meal, I like to go to The Soup Market. The chicken dumpling soup is a really good one, or I’m always ready for a delicious bowl of tomato bisque. This is a hard one! I scroll Sendik’s Soup Market weekly menu often, so I’d have to go with their hot bar. The chili is perf. (I’m always on the hunt for the best French onion soup, though if anyone has a lead…)
