It could have been a funny satire on Biblical times, but Year One is mostly primitive due to its immature humor and pointless plot. Black and Cera (two usually funny actors playing caricatures of themselves here) star as inept hunter-gatherers who leave their village and later attempt to rescue their slaved friends. All the funny jokes are in the trailer, while most of the movie centers on gags like flatulence and Cera massaging a disgustingly hairy priest (Oliver Platt). There’s some fun when talented comedic actors cameo as Biblical characters (like Paul Rudd and David Cross as Cain and Abel), but you’re better off renting Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
