| The author’s Billy Idol look from the ’80s. |
If you’re slim don’t read this. Last night I assembled all of my HUGE slacks and put them in a plastic bag for delivery to Re-Tique in the Third Ward. If you like Anne Klein
And Ralph Lauren pants, and if you wear a size ???, try ‘em on. For a few seconds I thought perhaps I’d take them in, but no, when I drop the final 20 lbs, sometime around my birthday in October, I’m going for the 70s look, not BoHo though. Old women don’t wear BoHo (except Diane Keaton).
Dressing at my age isn’t easy. Nor is the problem of how to style my hair. I’m well past the ponytail stage, and big hair is ridiculous because I look like I’m wearing wigs, and face it, long curls give me the aura of a wicked witch.
Twiggy’s hair. This morning, using a fair amount of slickum, I smoothed my very short hair into something that perhaps Twiggy got away with in the 60s, or was it the 70s? Back then I embraced her look fully, but well, back then I lacked a “chicken wattle,” the bane of women of a certain age. Lately, “Life Style Lift” ads have been getting my attention. The process would likely finish me off I’m sure. On the other hand, I’d make a good looking corpse.
So now that my Fall 2011 look is a lock, I can get on with life on floor 17. It’s been great having my granddaughter and her husband here to say “good morning grams,” each and every morning. Plus Maros (the spouse) does all of the cooking. He’s from Slovakia, but other than a mania for Slovak sausages, he prepares healthy salads and they exercise by jogging along the lake. My living room is stacked with ten pieces of luggage for him to haul back to New Zealand where he’ll face the remains of the earthquake there. Christchurch is still cleaning up and won’t start rebuilding for two years. Fortunately they were in Cleveland when the last one leveled the downtown district. They hated Cleveland, but my grand kid left with honors earned in her final lap in law school.
Damn, I think it’s summer. It feels like summer. Smells like summer. What I need is to sit back and relax. Fall 2011 will roll round soon enough.
