This breezy romantic comedy boasts many lame attempts at screwball humor and lacks a substantial plot, but When in Rome is charming and harmless due to its likeable cast and appealing premise. Disenchanted with her failed romances, Beth (Bell from 2009’s Couples Retreat) defiantly retrieves a handful of coins from Italy’s famed Fountain of Love. Unbeknownst to her, the lonely men who tossed them in hoping for love suddenly fall in love with her, making it difficult to tell if the one she loves really loves her back. While Rome is predictable and the supporting actors don’t have much to do, Bell makes the lovelorn Beth relatable and she and Duhamel have an effortless chemistry.
