Last week Wednesday I was talking to my boss in the Bradley Center media room prior to the Bucks game. Just making small talk, I told him my parents – season ticket holders – had missed the last couple games.
“I keep telling them they’ve missed some great games,” I said, referring to the Bucks wins over New Jersey and New York, both at the BC.
“Tell ’em to stay away then,” my boss replied.
I hadn’t actually thought about it that way. Of course, then I did. And after the loss to the Sacramento Kings that night…well, I’ve been thinking about it that way ever since.
I know I’m not the only sports fan who thinks superstitiously. Heck, last Thursday a friend of mine said, “You know, every time we all watch the game together, we lose. Remember the Rose Bowl?” I’m still debating whether this off-handed, pregame comment was foreshadowing or – well, just an off-handed, pregame comment.
I will say this: with the Bucks treading precariously on the cusp of another playoff berth, I’m not sure I’m willing to take any chances. I thought I might be over all the superstitious nonsense after the crushing loss to the Bulls Saturday night, since my parents were no where near the BC. But then I talked to my dad.
“Yeah, when we tuned in on the radio, we were up by like 12,” he said, “And then, all of a sudden, we were down by four.”
All of a sudden? All of a sudden?! It all seems a little too suspicious to me. So I gotta get out of here. There’s less than an hour before the next Bucks tipoff, and I gotta make sure someone isn’t tuning in.
Meanwhile. feel free to post your thoughts on the issue here. Or post on the FANdemonium facebook wall here.
