Tuesday- Ramirez returns

Some things to read while floating away. It’s been a busy week for the Milwaukee Brewers, and it’s only Tuesday. Over the weekend, they acquired Adam Lind, brought back Yovani Gallardo, announced they’re not bringing back Rickie Weeks, hired a new scouting director and made a waiver claim. On Monday, they made even more news when Aramis Ramirez announced his intention to exercise his half of his mutual option and return to the team for 2015.

Ramirez will receive $14 million for agreeing to spend his age 37 season with the Brewers (he turns 37 in June), and it’s hard to tell what the team should expect from him at this point. He was the National League’s All-Star starter at third base in 2014 but also posted a .427 slugging percentage, his lowest season mark since 2002. After hitting 27 home runs in his first season with the Brewers in 2012, he hit just 27 combined between 2013 and 2014.

On Opening Day, Ramirez will likely settle in across the diamond from new Brewer Adam Lind, who told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel his trade from Toronto is “still sinking in.” Lind had just returned from a week in Jamaica when he received the news that he was going to have to move.

With Lind, Ramirez and Yovani Gallardo in the fold, the Brewers have already spent $34.5 million retaining two players and acquiring another this offseason. The organization appears to be “going for it” again in 2015, and Grant Brisbee of SB Nation says they’re the ultimate win-now team.

Former BrewCrewBall editor Kyle Lobner has produced the Frosty Mug each weekday since March 2008. That’s nearly 1500 Mugs across six years, a tenure that saw the project grow from a small daily diversion to an all-encompassing look at the Brewers universe. He brought the Mug to Milwaukee Magazine prior to the 2014 Brewers season. When Kyle's not writing about the Brewers or talking about them on the radio, you’ll often find the Appleton resident at the ballpark with his wife, Laura, or out for a walk with his dachshund, Gorman.
