Thursday, Feb. 2: Big Head Todd and the Monsters with Sam Llanas at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($25)
Hailing from the jam band motherland of the mountains of Colorado, Big Head Todd has had an impressive run of more than two decades, touring and creating blues and folk-infused rock that appeals to a broad collection of fans. Although its mainstream popularity peaked in the early ‘90s with the platinum-selling Sister Sweetly, the band has kept at it, living out the jam band credo, “Tour, baby, tour.” (1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)

MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Friday, Feb. 3: Elusive Parallelograms with 1956 and Moss Folk at Cactus Club, 10 p.m. ($5)
Elusive Parallelograms is one of those bands that you would be best advised to keep your eye on in the coming months. Young, motivated and downright talented, this thrillingly unique five-piece continues to evolve and crank out catchy music at a torrid pace. Following up last year’s dynamic full-length Modern Splendor, the band will use the Cactus Club as the spot to drop its latest EP entitled HABITS. And if this thrillingly jaunty, psychedelic romp is any indication, it could be a banner year for this talented crew. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)

Saturday, Feb. 4: Kayhan Kalhor & Brooklyn Rider at Pitman Theater (Alverno College), 8 p.m. ($30)
Viewing a musician at the absolute peak of his or her craft is always a sight to behold, but it becomes even more intriguing when that artist has mastered an instrument as hauntingly beautiful as the kamancheh, a Persian string instrument with an other-worldly tone. Kayhan Kalhor is as close to a virtuoso as you’ll find this side of Tehran, so there will literally not be a better opportunity in your lifetime to see somebody play the shit out of a kamancheh. Will you honestly be able to tell your children someday that you passed it up? (3134 S. 39th St., alvernopresents.alverno.edu)
