“…a feel-good movie that made me smile a lot.” Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
“…a collection of unfunny, insipid and predictable vignettes…” Claudia Puig, USA Today
Even with a talented cast and the timely premise of a smart college graduate struggling to get employed, sitting through this cloying coming-of-age comedy is almost as hard as looking for a job. Gilmore Girl’s Bledel is charming enough as the ambitious job seeker and her frustration, disappointment and feelings of inferiority definitely resonant, but Post Grad quickly loses its novelty by veering off into pointless, ridiculous storylines like the grandma (Carol Burnett) testing out caskets and the father (Keaton) inadvertently stealing belt buckles. Worse of all, however, is the hollow relationship between Bledel and Gilford that we’re expected to take seriously and the astonishingly unrealistic ending.
