Monday, Nov. 1: NEEDTOBREATHE with The Daylights at Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m. ($20)
After a weekend of drunkenness and debauchery, you may want to redeem yourself by basking in the holy glow of Christian rockers NEEDTOBREATHE. The band’s delivery has its moments of interest with singer Bear Rinehart channeling Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill, but for the most part reverts to typical, sugar-coated anthem rock. (1042 N. MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Tuesday, Nov. 2: Ghostface Killah at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($16.50)
The Wu-Tang Clan has spawned its share of solo acts ranging from the unsuccessful, if not overmatched (U-God), to the successful, if not completely insane (Ol’ Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. O.D.B., a.k.a Big Baby Jesus, a.k.a. Dirt McGirt). But perhaps nobody has proven himself more worthy of the solo life than the emotive, bombastic Ghostface Killah, whose eight solo albums (his ninth, The Apollo Kids drops in December) have received both critical and popular praise. Wednesday, Nov. 3: Reverend Horton Heat with Split Lip Rayfield and Legendary Shack Shakers at Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m. ($22)
The Good Reverend has been raucously preaching the psychobilly gospel for two-and-a-half decades and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Expect moments of loud, sweaty, humorous and twangy testifying. (1042 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
Thursday, Nov. 4: Hayward Williams at House of Guinness, 9 p.m. (Free)
A truly articulate, gifted storyteller, Hayward Williams has grown from his humble Milwaukee roots into an artist with global appeal. But what sets Williams apart from the city’s other thoughtful troubadours is that heart-wrenching tenor that effortlessly pours out of his stick-thin frame. (354 W. Main St., houseofguinness.com)
Also: Darius Rucker with Steve Azar at The Riverside Theater, 8 p.m. ($29.50/$37.50)
Hootie, eh? I’m really more of a Blowfish fan. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)
Also: The Richard Thompson Band at The Pabst Theater, 8 p.m. ($25/$35)
(144 N. Wells St., pabsttheater.org)
Also: Electric Six and The Constellations with Mark Mallman at Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m. ($12)
(1042 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
Friday, Nov. 5: The Posies & Brendan Benson (of The Raconteurs) with Aqueduct at Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m. ($20)
Aside from 1993’s “Dream All Day,” Washington-based The Posies were never really able to ride the grunge wave into the hearts and minds of music fans everywhere. But the band is still at it and actually making some of its best music yet (1042 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
Also: CKY with Hourcast and Lionize at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($15)
Although the band is best known for being related to Bam Margera, CKY has some enjoyable moments of reckless alt-metal abandon. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)
Also: Video Games Live: Bonus Round featuring Bel Canto Chorus with Michael Salvatori (Composer from Halo) at The Riverside, 8 p.m. ($35/$55/$75)
Music from the most popular video games of all time performed live by an orchestra and chorus? Grab your Power Glove and get your nerdy ass down there! Don’t worry, I’m sure your totally hot, totally not-made-up girlfriend who lives in Vancouver won’t mind. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)
Also: Jackraasch (EP Release) with People Of The Glass House and Animals In Human Attire at The Cactus Club, 10 p.m.
(2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)
Saturday, Nov. 6: Hard Drive Live Tour featuring Sevendust with 10 Years, Anew Revolution, and Aranda at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($22.50)
Sevendust has had an interesting ride since slamming onto the metal scene in 1997 with its self-titled debut, which featured the iconic slam-fests “Black” and “Bitch.” Although the band has maintained a sizable following through a steady tour schedule and a plethora of album releases (some better than others), Sevendust has never quite broken through to receive the mainstream accolades it really deserves.
