Dropping by for the conclusion of the holiday weekend, NERO made a rather surprising appearance at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. Known primarily for it’s rather relaxed and historic feel, with the occasional rock show, the Riverside hosted the dubstep/dance/electronic sensation for a long night of bass-hungry fans.
NERO, a British dubstep act out of London, recently came to the music scene back in 2010. Releasing a couple of singles over the early months of 2010, they gradually became more and more popular for their bass-heavy dance affluent music. As dubstep eventually started to make its way into the world of music overall, NERO came right along with it.
The tour’s opening acts for NERO were pretty good, but seemed a bit repetitive at times. Their sets seemed to drag out for too long and left fans waiting about 2 hours for NERO to finally take the stage. There were a few groups of fans that particularity enjoyed the opening acts, but overall I don’t think they really got into it as much as NERO.
Sunday’s performance was no exception to the energy NERO brings out in their music and on tour anywhere else. They had a pretty nifty stage setup with a (really) high platform in which they stayed secluded on for the show. Upping their appearance passed the stereotypical DJ card table, their stand was fronted with TV’s and speakers creating a rather picturesque scene.
Adding to the excitement of the moment, NERO’s light show was also rather impressive. It wasn’t the best I’ve seen out of any act, but it amplified the energy of the music and helped immerse the crowd in the moment.
The expectedly smaller crowd (due to the holiday weekend) was equally as rowdy as the bass and samples NERO blasted out. Mostly high-school/college demographics attend such boisterous shows and this one was no exception. The show was general admission, as expected, and most everyone relocated from a seat to the pit area up in front of the stage. After all this is a dubstep show…who sits down?
There was an excess of crowd excitement and energy throughout NERO’s set as their hard hitting bass and mind boggling songs shook everyone’s expectations. Even security was having a bit of fun as they seemed a bit more sociable with fans in between sets and less up tight about the little things.
NERO will continue their US tour through May and would be a great show to grab if you’re in the mood for some serious dubstep.
