Tuesday, July 24: Lyle Lovett at Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s
Northern Lights Theater, 8 p.m. ($60-75)
Although probably best known as Julia
Roberts’ ex-husband, Lyle Lovett has also dabbled in music a tad. Some 30
years, 13 albums, four Grammys, a couple acting roles and one storied career
later, the canonical country crooner adds to his music legend with an avid
touring schedule. This marks Lovett’s third Milwaukee show in the last 18
months. (1721 W. Canal St., PaysBig.com)
Wednesday, July 25: Counting Crows at BMO Harris Pavilion,
7:30 p.m. ($29-49)
After opening up
shop during Summerfest, Milwaukee’s newest venue – the BMO Harris Pavilion – has
wasted no time booking a myriad of well-known acts such as Boston, Daughtry, My Morning Jacket, Elvis Costello
and Red Hot Chili Peppers to help break in the massive and state-of-the-art
lakeside stage. Prior to all those events, though, is the Outlaw Roadshow,
which is headlined by the rarely seen staying power of ’90s alternative
powerhouse Counting Crows. Also playing is Milwaukee’s own Field Report. (200 N. Harbor Dr.)
Also: Tinsel Teeth, Doomsday Student, Holy
Shit!, and Ifihadahifi at Cactus Club, 9 p.m. – (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)
Thursday, July 26: This Must Be The Band
(Talking Heads Tribute) at Shank Hall, 9 p.m. ($10)
Sure, there are a
few other music options in town Thursday, and most of them offer original
songs. But we’ve found covers of Talking Heads songs still trump most original
versions of just about every song in most band’s catalogs. (1434 N. Farwell Ave., ShankHall.com

Milwaukee favorite
Fever Marlene manages to pack quite a wallop with its driving and powerful rock
‘n’ roll construct, despite having just two members. Aided with an arsenal of
effects pedals and an inventive-while-catchy sound, Fever Marlene has set
itself apart from most of its Brew City brethren. The Championship opens. (2028 E. North Ave., TheHotelFoster.com)
