It was a big week for fashion. Here are the headlines that caught my eye:
- Right before Monday’s Met Gala, The New York Times’ Suzy Menkes previewed the exhibit, as someone who lived through the heyday of punk, and says that the Costume Institute’s version of punk was lacking the “down and dirty.” But the gala itself, Eric Wilson deemed, “the best… in years.”
- The founder of luxury brand Missoni, Ottavio Missoni, has died at age 92. Business of Fashion has an obit.
- Fashionista has an interesting first-person editorial on what fashion brands, works and governments must do in the wake of Bangladesh building collapse that killed more than 1,000 workers. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, a survivor – who has been buried in rubble since the collapse 17 days ago – has been rescued.
- Because it’s always fascinating to see what Karl will do with tweed next, WWD reviews Chanel’s 2014 resort show.
- Joseph Altazurra has designed costumes for the New York City ballet, and Riccardo Tisci designed costumes for Opéra Garnier. In fashion, it seems all the world really is a stage.
- Today/tonight is CREO, Mount Mary’s student fashion show at the Harley-Davidson Museum (Held at three different times throughout the day; ticketing info can be found here). - Stephanie Horne Boutique is hosting a fashion show on June 5 at Swig (217 N. Broadway). Hair and makeup will be styled by Azana Salon & Spa.
