Thursday, Sept. 8: Call Me Lightning with Your Pest Band, Holy Shit! and Chinese Telephones at Club Garibaldi, 8 p.m. ($6)
In the holiday hangover edition of the Weekly Roundup, what starts as a slow live music week picks up into a busy weekend on Thursday with Milwaukee’s (and Tyler’s) favorite sons, Call Me Lightning. Brash, loud and endlessly entertaining, Call Me Lightning infuses arena rock thunder with basement rock grittiness to produce one of the most enthralling live shows you will see. Also: The Constellations with Prussia at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($12)

Friday, Sept. 9: Borg Ward Collective Fourth Anniversary with Trin Tran, Absolutely, Dan of Earth, Soup Moat and Sacrificial Massacre at Borg Ward Collective, 6 p.m. (FREE)
It’s hard to believe that it’s only been four years since the Borg Ward first opened its doors to Milwaukee’s original-music-hungry under-21 crowd. Although the cozy art gallery/music venue/gathering place in the heart of Walker’s Point has had its ups and downs over the years, there is no denying its important role in fostering all-ages shows and bands in the city. (823 W. National Ave., theborgward.org)

Also: TV Ghost with Head On Electric and Bad Omens at Quarter’s Rock ‘N Roll Palace, 9 p.m. ($6)
(900 E. Center St.)

MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK

Saturday, Sept. 10: Gene Ween at Pabst Theater, 8 p.m. ($20/$22)
The band Ween has spent the past 20 years pushing and bending the boundaries of genre and taste with its psychedelic take on alternative music. Equal parts brilliant and cringe-worthy, it is impossible to question the influential role the band has played since its early drug-fueled days in Pennsylvania.

What makes this show so intriguing is the fact that Gene Ween (one half of the songwriting duo along with Dean Ween) as a solo act is quite the departure from the traditional Ween sound. Although he will most likely feature a lot of the band’s classic hits, the songs take on a much more accessible, haunting tinge when played on acoustic guitar or keyboard. But have no fear Ween fans, he’s still as genuinely bizarre as ever. (144 E. Wells St., PabstTheater.org)

Also: Mucca Pazza with John The Savage at Miramar Theatre, 9 p.m. ($12)
We’ve talked up Mucca Pazza in the past here at Music Notes, and with good reason. I mean, how many other circus punk marching bands do you know of? Expect a night of outstanding energy and off-beat chaos. Appropriately eccentric John The Savage should set the stage perfectly for the night at hand. (2844 N. Oakland Ave., TheMiramarTheatre.com)

Also: Alison Krauss And Union Station at Riverside Theater, 8 p.m. ($45/$55)
(116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)

(2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., frankspowerplant.net)

Sunday, Sept. 11: Crappy Dracula at Frank’s Power Plant, 5 p.m. ($6)
Punk vets Crappy Dracula are as good as they are funny. And they’re damn funny.

See for yourself on one of the last Packers-free Sundays for a while … and bring a dish to pass so you can feast on some BBQ while Crappy Dracula breezes through its latest effort Fantastic Dracula. Outer Spacist and The Living Blackouts open. (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., frankspowerplant.net)

Also: Couch Flambeau with Le Singe Blanc at Cactus Club, 8 p.m.
