MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK

Thursday, July 14: The Caribbean with Conrad Plymouth, Hello Death and Aero Flynn at Cactus Club, 8 p.m.

When you think of experimental prog pop bands, a million names probably come to mind. Like The Caribbean, um… Well, I guess that’s about it. D.C.-based The Caribbean has been using all the tools in the pop arsenal (hooky melodies, acoustic guitars, keyboards, etc.) to make a mockery of pop sensibilities for more than a decade by rearranging and morphing its sound in some really interesting ways. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)

Also: The Trusty Knife with Holy Shit!, Bzybodies, Warhammer 48k and more at Quarter’s Rock ‘n Roll Palace, 6 p.m. ($7) (900 E. Center St.)

Friday, July 15: David Allan Coe with Vince Anthony at Turner Hall, 8 p.m. ($25)

The ultimate country rebel, David Allan Coe’s music has been at times crude, racist, vulgar and misogynistic. But in the face of modern blah country like Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker and Sugarland, Coe’s renegade persona (he has been in and out of prison since childhood and claims to have killed a fellow inmate at one point) comes across as oddly refreshing. (1032 N. Fourth St., PabstTheater.org)

Also: Will Phalen with Todd Richards and Lady Cannon at Linneman’s, 9 p.m. ($5)

(1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)

Saturday, July 16: Surgeons in Heat, Sat. Nite Duets and Kane Place Record Club at Linneman’s, 9 p.m. ($5)

Coming off the band’s stellar performance on the Cascio Interstate Music Stage at Summerfest, Milwaukee’s own Surgeons in Heat get right back to business with a nice lineup at Linneman’s. Not surprising considering the show and recording warriors these guys have been since the band’s inception little more than a year and a half ago. (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)

Also: Fahri with Fuck Knights and Sonic J at Circle-A Café, 8 p.m.

(932 E. Chambers St., circle-a-cafe.org)

Sunday, July 17: Norma Jean at The Rave, 4 p.m. ($19.50)

Norma Jean started making Christian metalcore in the late ‘90s when Christian metalcore was about as popular as, well, Christian metalcore. But the movement took off and the band, despite several lineup changes through the years, has soldiered on, even receiving a Grammy nomination in 2006. Eight-pound six-ounce baby Jesus must be so proud. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., TheRave.com)

Also: Hellogoodbye with Fake Problems, Fences and A Great Big Pile of Leaves at The Rave, 7 p.m. ($12)

(2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., TheRave.com)
