Did the world really need its first Squeakquel? Not if you’re over 10. Nevertheless, young children will love this obnoxious, dense sequel to 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks. Why? Because there’s even more bushy-tailed, squeaky-voiced rodents to love. Joining Alvin, Theodore and Simon (Long, McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler), are the Chipettes. Eleanor, Brittany and Jeanette (Amy Poehler, Applegate and Faris) are exact counterparts to our classic trio, but they also happen to sing! Despite having a large, talented cast that also includes Desperate Housewive’s Kathryn Joosten and Chuck’s Zachary Levi, the voice performances are almost as lazy as the writing. Still, there’s plenty of zeal and silly humor for the little ones.
