“A clever, heart-pounding thriller…” Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle
“More scenic than scary.” Kevin C. Johnson, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
With its surprising twist and dark humor, this low-budget thriller is indeed A Perfect Getaway from all the pointless action flicks and lame kid movies currently inundating theaters. Honeymooners Cliff (Zahn) and Cydney (Jovovich) think they’ve found paradise as they backpack to a remote, beautiful Hawaiian beach until they discover that someone’s murdering newlywed couples and they could be next. All four leads give vibrant performances, especially Olyphant (TV’s “Deadwood“) who steals the show with his devilish turn as a former soldier. Though at times overly gory and the storytelling is occasionally uneven, Getaway is stylistic, suspenseful and pretty fun.
