3 Must-Do Events During Bronzeville Week: Aug. 3-10

Bronzeville Week kicks off with the HaRUNbee 5K run/walk!

Bronzeville Week showcases not just the neighborhood’s past as a social and economic center for Milwaukee’s African American community, but its thriving present and promising future. This summer, new street signage, historical markers and more will share Bronzeville’s unique identity and history. Here are three events during this year’s festivities you won’t want to miss.

1. Bronzeville Artwalk

AUG. 10

Stroll through the neighborhood at this closing event spotlighting local and national artists and offering face painting, food and drink.

2. HaRUNbee 5K Run/Walk

AUG. 3

Each year, the week of celebration starts with an air horn. This 7 a.m. race along Dr. MLK Jr. Drive raises awareness of unhealthy birth outcomes.

3. Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival

AUG. 4

The daylong hallmark fest gathers artists, musicians, dancers, vendors and food trucks along North Avenue.

The annual Black Arts Fest MKE returns to Henry Maier Park Aug. 3. The event celebrates culture from all over the Black diaspora, with a market square, sip and paint sessions, a dance competition, and two stages of live music that run the gamut of genres from jazz to R&B, rock to reggae, and hip-hop to country.
