“…undeniably enjoyable.” Connie Ogle, Miami Herald
“a jumbled mess that nobody wants.” Perry Seibert, TV Guide
This cliché-ridden but enjoyable teen comedy about a 37-year-old (Perry) transformed into his 17-year-old self (Efron) could have been a stale reversal of Tom Hanks’ Big, but a dad going to high school with his kids and trying to reconcile with his estranged wife creates some surprisingly funny and tender moments. With that, however, comes the icky problems of his daughter’ (Trachtenberg) flirtations and his inappropriate advances on his adult wife (Mann). High School Musical’ Efron proves he can carry a movie but doesn&rsquot capture adult mannerisms as vividly as Hanks portrayed a teenager. Though directed heavy-handely, 17 Again tells a satisfying tale of dealing with the past.
