10 Things to Do in Milwaukee This Weekend: Aug. 19-21

Irish Fest, the Bloody Mary Festival, IPA Fest and more are coming up this weekend.

1. Milwaukee a la Carte at the Zoo

ALL WEEKEND | MILWAUKEE COUNTY ZOO

Eat great local food, see some animals and listen to music at Milwaukee a la Carte at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Some of the artists performing include Bella Cain, the Plain White Ts and Spin Doctors. There will also be kids activities and the usual zoo favorites like the train, goat yard and more. Tickets are available online or in-person day-of. 

2. Milwaukee Irish Fest

ALL WEEKEND | HENRY MAIER FESTIVAL PARK

This beloved Milwaukee festival will feature performances, including Irish dancing, theater and musicians, Irish food (hello shepherd’s pie and bangers!), beer and a cultural village to teach the cultures and traditions of the Irish and Celtic histories. 

3. The Bloody Mary Festival

SATURDAY FROM 10:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M. AND 3-6 P.M. | FISERV FORUM PLAZA

Unlimited bloody marys. Need we say more? At this festival celebrating the classic drink, you can also enjoy food and beverage tastings from local companies, and you’ll get to vote in the People’s Choice Award for best bloody. The bloody marys will be made from local bars, restaurants and craft mixes. Tickets for the festival are available online

4. Home August Craft Market

SATURDAY FROM 11 A.M.-4 P.M. | LYNDEN SCULPTURE GARDEN

The HOME Refugee Steering Committee at Lynden Sculpture Garden is celebrating World Refugee Day on Saturday by hosting outdoor events and programs to highlight Milwaukee’s refugee communities through their art, food, fashion and more. The outdoor market will feature items and goods from Indigenous creators and makers from Asia and Africa. There will also be Afghan meals available (for donation) to support women refugees and their families. 

5. Jimmy Buffett Brat House Party Bus

SATURDAY AT 1 P.M. | MILWAUKEE BRAT HOUSE

Jimmy Buffet’s concert at Alpine Valley in East Troy was rescheduled to this Saturday, and the Milwaukee Brat House has transportation to and from the performance covered. Their party bus will have all-you-can-drink beer, Whiteclaws and water, and before the drive out, there will be a pre-show tailgate in the Brat House parking lot. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets for the concert itself can be purchased online

6. Wisconsin IPA Fest

SATURDAY AT 2 P.M. | THIRD SPACE BREWING

The sixth-annual Wisconsin IPA Fest will bring the hops to Third Space Brewing’s beer garden this Saturday, featuring beers from 49 breweries across Wisconsin and more than 100 varieties of IPA. Judges (including our own executive editor) will crown one beer champion, and you can vote for the People’s Choice winner, too. Tickets start at $65 including unlimited sampling for three hours and a limited-edition glass.

7. John Mulaney: From Scratch

SATURAY  AT 7 P.M. | FISERV FORUM

John Mulaney is coming to the Fiserv Forum this Saturday. The comedian has hosted on SNL several times and was in the Broadway show Oh, Hello On Broadway. Get ready to laugh but be prepared to put your phone in a pouch, as there’s no recording at the event. Tickets start at $34.50 and can be purchased online

8. Soul Care Sunday

SUNDAY FROM 9:30 A.M.-5 P.M. | ANGELIC ROOTS

Soul Care Sunday empowers participants’ souls and kindles their spirits through sound meditation, energy boost sessions infused with Reiki, sound immersion sessions and more. Tickets are available online. Doors close five minutes after the start time.

9. Trans Artist Highlight

SUNDAY AT 9:30 P.M. | CACTUS CLUB

The Cactus Club is is hosting Trans Artist Highlight night, filled with hip-hop, pop, rap, soul, R&B, DJ and poetry performances. All gender expressions are welcome and affirmed at the event and at the Cactus Club. The event is free for all transgender individuals and there is a $5 encouraged donation for cisgendered persons, of which half of the proceeds will be donated to the Butterfly Collective. 

10. Dance & Cheer Class Open House

SATURDAY FROM 10 A.M.-4 P.M. AND SUNDAY FROM 1-3 P.M. | DREAM CHEER AND DANCE STUDIO

Ever wanted to try out a dance class before you commit? Dream Cheer and Dance Studio’s open house is a day full of different classes at the studio for adults, teens and youth to try. Classes include stretching, dance, jazz, cheerleading, hip-hop and more. Participants can meet the instructors, see the studio and try the classes. Class space is limited and available on a first-come-first-serve basis, so pre-registration is recommended.
