Local filmmaker and performance artist Wes Tank joined Milwaukee Magazine Publisher and Editor Carole Nicksin for a livestream lunch Tuesday.
Tank discussed his viral video, in which he raps Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss to the beats of Dr. Dre.
Tank launched his media production company, Tankthink, in February. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans for the first year of the company. However, he said he was looking for ways to be creative and stay positive amid this uncertainty.
“There was a good week there where I was just kind of walking to the park every day,” Tank said. “I was picking up trash and just thinking a lot about my life and what to do next and how I could contribute, as a creative, to what’s happening in the world.”
In this search for a creative outlet during the pandemic, Tank decided to produce a video of himself rapping Dr. Seuss to the beats of Dr. Dre. He has previously held several live performances of this mash-up at events throughout Milwaukee, but this was the first video production.
The video quickly went viral, and it now has well over one million views on YouTube. Tank has been featured by news organizations around the world.
Tank has since posted four additional Dr. Seuss/Dr. Dre performances: Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish.
