The St. Ann Center Names a New President and CEO

Derek Goodman will succeed Sister Edna Lonergan, who founded St. Ann Center in 1983.

This week, the St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care has named Derek Goodman as its new president and chief executive officer. Goodman succeeds Sister Edna Lonergan, who founded the Milwaukee nonprofit in 1983.

Lonergan, 82, was a recipient of a Milwaukee Magazine Betty Award in 2019 for her work leading the organization.

St. Ann Center offers day care for children, as well as older adults and those with disabilities at its two Milwaukee locations – the Stein campus at 2801 E. Morgan Ave. and the Bucyrus campus at 2450 W. North Ave. It also offers other health and wellness services for family caregivers, with a mission of forming intergenerational relationships.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

“Sister Edna’s commitment to creating a nurturing environment that fosters dignity and care has positively transformed countless lives and her legacy of compassion and innovation will influence the center’s direction well into the future,” St. Ann Center board chairman Tim Sullivan said in a news release. “She will continue to inspire the community with her daily presence and interactions at both campuses.”

Sullivan said Goodman brings considerable experience in Wisconsin adult day care and youth services to the position, making him “exceptionally well aligned with St. Ann Center’s core values and mission, and well prepared to lead St. Ann Center into its next phase of growth and impact.”

Goodman previously served as executive director at The Richardson School, which operates five therapeutic day schools in Wisconsin serving children with disabilities and behavioral challenges. He has also held leadership roles at Paragon Community Services, which serves more than 300 adults, young adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Goodman also held leadership positions at Easter Seals Southeast Wisconsin and served on the Wisconsin Adult Day Services Association Board of Directors.

“St. Ann Center is excited to see how Derek’s fresh perspectives and strategies will contribute to the center’s goals of expanding services and enriching more lives,” Sullivan said. “We are grateful for the continuous support from the community and our partners, which remains essential to the center’s success.”
