On the Horizon: Dancin’ and Romancin’

On the Horizon: Dancin’ and Romancin’

Theater openings at Skylight and Next Act; plus dance performances from UWM and “Real Time.”

Here’s what’s on the calendar for the first weekend in February.

Winterdances: WovenCollaboration and interdisciplinary works are the center of this UW-Milwaukee dance concert, which includes work by Simone Ferro, Dani Kuepper, Darci Brown Wutz and Dan Schuchart, last year’s recipient of UWM’s New Work Award.

Deborah Staples

The Other PlaceSharr White’s 2011 drama featured Laurie Metcalf in a “compelling, at times scarily intense performance,” according to one critic. We can think of no better Milwaukee actor to rise to that description than Deborah Staples, who stars in this Next Act Theatre production. David Cecsarini directs a cast that also includes Todd Denning, Di’Monte Henning and Cristina Panfilio.

Karen Estrada

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now ChangeThe Skylight goes straight for the Valentine’s Day heart with this chamber musical, a long-running Off-Broadway song fest about the trials and tribulations of modern relationships. Pam Kriger directs the quartet of Karen Estrada, Rick Pendzich, Doug Clemons and Kathyrn Hausman, with the always remarkable Jack Forbes Wilson at the piano.

Andrea and Daniel Burkholder

Real Time: Fight and FlightAndrea and Daniel Burkholder start every month with a new dance performance in their Real Time series. For February, Andrea takes to the rafters with some aerial work, while guest Christopher Elst offers an object lesson in stage combat.
