Face of Higher Education for Students with Special Needs

For 16 years, Shepherds College® has taught students with intellectual and developmental disabilities on its Union Grove campus. The Christian post-secondary school has nearly 90 students and provides a comprehensive, holistic curriculum, a residential college experience, and remote courses through Shepherds College Online.
“We help these young people really change the trajectory of their lives,” says Dr. Tracy Terrill, the college’s president. “We have an incredible staff that cares deeply about our students.”
Students attend three years of classes at Shepherds College. They choose from culinary arts, horticulture or technology as their occupational field of study. Along with those classes, they also learn social and life skills to help achieve a level of independence that fits their individual strengths. Over 240 graduates, most of whom are employed, live with more significant self-sufficiency after completing their education.
“We strive to help our students reach their God-given potential,” Terrill says.
Shepherds College students do not receive federal student aid, so much of their financial need is met through scholarships and donations, which are also used to improve the residential campus. Shepherds College is pursuing expansion opportunities around the country and throughout the world, bringing life-changing training to new locations.
“We’ve been blessed to have generous people and organizations support our work,” Terrill says. “When you support Shepherds College, you’re helping to transform the lives of our students.”
