Founded by Jennifer Janssen, a longtime business owner, makeup artist and aesthetician, Avery and Birch opened its doors in August 2023 with a clear mission: to create an elevated, welcoming business rental space for beauty professionals, by beauty professionals. In less than two years, the studio has blossomed into one of the region’s most stylish, community-focused beauty hubs.

Now, with growth on the horizon, Avery and Birch is setting the standard for what modern beauty studios can be.Janssen’s journey began over a decade ago in Milwaukee’s bustling wedding and production makeup scene. Despite her success, she struggled to find a studio space that reflected the level of professionalism, warmth and style she desired. That challenge became the seed of inspiration.

With the support of her husband, Ryan, whose background in real estate and construction proved invaluable, the duo set out to build the ideal studio space from the ground up. The final piece of the puzzle came when Janssen partnered with her sister, Delanie Ford, an experienced business owner with a dynamic background in marketing, brand development and operations. Together, they brought the vision of Avery and Birch to life in the city of Greenfield – creating not just a space but a movement.

The woman-owned and -operated, three­story space was designed specifically for beauty professionals who are tired of impersonal franchise settings. “Everyone who walks in says itʼs the most gorgeous salon they’ve seen,” says Janssen. The personalized design, paired with the teamʼs hands-on presence, ensures that the beauty professionals who lease their space feel supported.

Avery and Birch’s studios are thoughtfully curated, and all include exterior windows (a rare luxury in salon suites). Features like a shared color processing room, a coffee bar and stylish lounge areas help create a lively, vibrant and bright environment for beauty professionals and their clients. With its first location thriving, Avery and Birch is now preparing to break ground on a new location in Brookfield, an open-concept ranch building filled with natural light.

“We’ve always been big thinkers,” says Janssen. “It’s not just about beauty – it’s about connection, creativity and a place where professionals and clients alike are empowered to thrive. Avery and Birch isn’t just about leasing studios – it’s about elevating the standard for beauty professionals. We’ve built a vibrant, inspiring community.”
