Whereas Milwaukee’s city flag has served its city well for 60 years;
Whereas many of the symbols incorporated in the city flag have been relegated to the dustbins of history;
Whereas Milwaukee, the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, a state whose motto is “Forward,” leads the way when it comes to arts, commerce and industry in the Badger State;
Whereas the citizens of Milwaukee deserve good governance and good design wherever they might turn;
And Whereas the city is enjoying a rebirth and renaissance with every dawn shining light on new buildings and fresh ideas;
Now, we, the undersigned, do hereby petition Milwaukee’s city leaders, specifically the city of Milwaukee Arts Board, to undertake the people’s work and commit to uncovering a new flag design to unfurl, one that reflects the tastes and preferences of a city that will continue to lead well into the 21st century.
