On Thursday, over 200 people gathered to celebrate Milwaukee Magazine‘s sixth annual Betty Awards at Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel. The event highlighted the stories and accomplishments of this year’s honorees and the enduring legacy of the magazine’s founding publisher, Betty Quadracci.
“Each year, as we sort through the stack of Bettys nominations, I am awed by how many talented and accomplished women we have in Milwaukee,” said Carole Nicksin, Milwaukee Magazine‘s publisher and editor-in-chief. “The work Betty did during the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s helped create the fertile ground that has allowed so many women to thrive. … She used her position to, gently and not so gently, put pressure on the powers that be to hire women, promote women and treat women with respect. It’s easy to forget how far we’ve come in a relatively short time. And while there is still work to be done, let’s acknowledge that we are all standing on the shoulders of Betty and her pals, and their hard-earned successes.”
The audience – including former Betty winners – heard from each of this years honorees: Laura Bray, Lynne Dixon-Speller, Alicia Dupies, Sister Mary Ewens, Polly Morris and Mariana Rodriguez. LionArt Media created video segments about each honoree, which will be available to view on milwaukeemag.com next week.

We’re looking forward to next year!
