Every day since moving back to Milwaukee last March I’ve passed the brick building on Jefferson in the Third Ward that displayed signs for establishments of yore, Fanatics and Hilo Martini Lounge. I had to do a double take one day last month when I noticed a sign appeared declaring, “Anthony’s.” I hadn’t heard anything about a new bar at 185 N. Jefferson Street, but after employing my internet stalking skills normally reserved for men, I learned Anthony’s on Jefferson opened in February and aims to be a “warm and relaxing” music lounge experience for Milwaukeeans. Spring is weeks old, and with the recent return of Brewers baseball, the joys of summer aren’t far behind. On Monday evening INdustri Café (524 S 2nd St.) played host to five of Milwaukee’s most creative bartenders in a tequila cocktail competition sponsored by Don Julio as well as the United States Bartenders Guild. The Milwaukee-adjacent village of Cudahy isn’t exactly renowned for its bar scene. The small, no frills, industrial locale is better known for its lunch meat than its libations, for its forging more than its fun hangouts. If there was ever a bar I’ve visited that should have its own reality show, it would be The Parlor (1517 S. 2nd St.), which opened in July in the former Bomb Shelter. The Walker’s Point establishment has all the ingredients for an awesome show: a great environment, a unique cast of characters and an underdog story.
