1. Rocket Baby
MELISA MACKEVICIUS, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
For pastries I love Rocket Baby in Tosa – the pastries are super fresh and flaky, and the shop is adorable. You can use the walk-up window, go inside and enjoy your meal, or head to the outdoor Pocket Park right next door with benches and space for kiddos to play. I’m a huge fan of their croissants (plain, chocolate or almond). 6822 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa
2. Peter Sciortino Bakery
ARCHER PARQUETTE, MANAGING EDITOR
When my grandfather sailed across the Atlantic to begin a new life in this country, he left Italy behind. But damn it, he did not leave behind the Italian spirit! It lives on in me, my blood running like marinara, and I will always love a great Italian bakery like Peter Sciortino’s. It’s the cookies that get me – the amaretti, the biscotti, the spumoni. I’ll try to eat one and soon find myself with an empty tray and a overfull stomach. 1101 E. Brady St.
3. Grebe’s
SOPHIE YUFA, EDITORIAL DESIGNER
They make really good donuts. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, but the best places always are. When you walk in, you just know they’ve been perfecting this craft for years. Humble storefront, LOUD baked goods. The last time I had Grebe’s was on Fat Tuesday – the paczki was out of this world. I’m counting the days. 5132 W. Lincoln Ave., West Allis

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
4. Simma’s
MELISA MACKEVICIUS, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
For cakes, I really like Simma’s in Tosa. Not only are their signature cakes beautiful – they are super tasty. A great, light buttercream frosting. Perfect for any party! 817 N. 68th St.
5. Cranky’s
MEGAN GUZMAN, CIRCULATION AND MARKETING MANAGER
I have to go with Cranky’s. Whether you prefer ‘doughnuts’ or ‘donuts,’ you’re in the right place for freshly baked goodness. 6901 W. North Ave.
BRIANNA SCHUBERT, DIGITAL EDITOR
I’d have to agree with Megan. Cranky’s is the best spot in town for donuts, hands down. I love the weird flavors, delicious fillings, and the superb quality of the donuts. My personal favorites – I’m a bit basic – are the bavarian cream and the buttercream filled ones. Also, I genuinely don’t know if it’s donuts or doughnuts … what’s in a name? I don’t care. I just care what’s in the donut.
6. Gingerbread House
GIGI PETERSON, ADMINISTRATIVE/EVENT ASSISTANT
This isn’t in Milwaukee, but one of our family favorites is the Gingerbread House in Muskego. I love the country atmosphere and everything is delicious there!
7. Breadsmith
ABBY YEMM, MEDIA EXECUTIVE
I’m a blueberry scone Breadsmith kinda lady. But really, I go there for the sourdough bread – so fresh and delicious. Multiple metro Milwaukee locations
