The Best Summer Drinks in Milwaukee | Milwaukee Magazine

Ask MilMag: It’s Summer, What Are You Sipping?

In this series, Milwaukee Magazine staffers answer questions about the city, share cherished memories, give unsolicited advice and crack the occasional dumb joke.

1. Iced Lavender Lattes

BRIANNA SCHUBERT, ASSOCIATE DIGITAL EDITOR

There’s a difference between drinking hot coffee and cold coffee. Hot coffee is for function. It gets you out of bed in the morning and transitions you into your day. Cold coffee makes you feel like the hot girl at the coffee shop. It’s fun, it’s flirty, it’s a little boost of life. So, in the summer, that’s what I’m sipping: Iced lavender lattes with oat milk, all day long, baby.

2. New Glarus Pilsner and Hop Water

CHRIS DROSNER, EXECUTIVE EDITOR

I bought three 12-packs of New Glarus Pilsner to get me through the summer (but am running a little short already), and I’ve been frequently alternating beers with a Third Space Hop Water (Mosaic Lime for me, thanks) because I’ve realized that I really like to drink things, even without the alcohol.

Tell us who you’d pick to be a Betty this year!

3. Rosé

CAROLE NICKSIN, EDITOR & PUBLISHER

Rosé on the patio at Harbor House! It’s truly transporting sitting in a deck chair, gazing at Lake Michigan and enjoying a refreshing glass of wine.

4. My Own Tinto de Verano

CHELSEA MAMEROW, ART DIRECTOR

I like red wine on ice with either lime or ginger peach seltzer. My own tinto de verano. Also, ranch water.

5. Iced Coffee

ARCHER PARQUETTE, MANAGING EDITOR

They don’t call me “Carl the Crazy Coffee Cat” for nothing. They call me that because I drink a lot of coffee. (I don’t really understand the “Carl” part.) In summer, I trade in my usual mug of the hot stuff for a cold brew alternative. I’m not picky by any means – McDonald’s is good enough for me – but my favorite cold brew is Valentine’s. Their Third Ward location is a charming summer morning spot.

6. Homemade Palomas and Cantaritos

BIANCA CABRAL, EDITORIAL DESIGNER

For me, it’s homemade Palomas and Cantaritos. They’re best served in jarritos de barro, and the perfect addition to a relaxing summer night outdoors.

7. Boba

NAVIA-AYAUNA ERBST, DESIGN INTERN

I’ve decided to embark on trying to find the all the boba places in the city, and my choice of comparison is Taro with tapioca boba. Nothing quite hits the spot like this very sweet drink, and since it’s hard to mess up, it’s almost always amazing.

8. Kirkland Prosecco

ALLI WATTERS, DIGITAL & CULTURE EDITOR

You know the bottle: It’s purple, and typically bought in bulk at Costco. This store-brand sparkling sipper will only set you back about $7 and frankly, I can’t tell the difference between this dry and bubbly offering and the “good stuff.” In an ideal world, I’m sharing a bottle with my mom and sister. And as always, I would hope we’re on a boat.
