Some things to read while things go downhill.

We are 78 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Maryvale Baseball Park, and we’ll likely know a little more about the Milwaukee Brewers and their rivals at this time a week from now when they’re departing the 2014 Winter Meetings in San Diego. The Brewers continue to downplay their possible involvement in major transactions at the event, telling Adam McCalvy of MLB.com the team is “mostly set” at this point.

The final piece of business at the meetings will be the annual Rule 5 draft on Thursday, when teams can select unprotected players with a minimum amount of minor league service time or other qualifications. The Brewers are a year removed from acquiring Wei-Chung Wang that way, and Derek Harvey profiled him as the latest installment in Brew Crew Ball’s player-by-player look at the 2014 season.

Former BrewCrewBall editor Kyle Lobner has produced the Frosty Mug each weekday since March 2008. That’s nearly 1500 Mugs across six years, a tenure that saw the project grow from a small daily diversion to an all-encompassing look at the Brewers universe. He brought the Mug to Milwaukee Magazine prior to the 2014 Brewers season. When Kyle's not writing about the Brewers or talking about them on the radio, you’ll often find the Appleton resident at the ballpark with his wife, Laura, or out for a walk with his dachshund, Gorman.
