Some things to read while closing your gingerbread roof.

We are 71 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Maryvale Baseball Park, and today the Milwaukee Brewers will wrap up a remarkably unremarkable Winter Meetings in San Diego. The event draws to a close following the Rule 5 draft this morning, where Doug Melvin told @AdamMcCalvy he does not expect to make a selection. Derek Harvey of Brew Crew Ball has a preview of the event. J.J. Cooper of Baseball America didn’t list any Brewers farmhands among his collection of players that could be selected, but Matt Eddy of the same publication mentioned former first round pick Jed Bradley as a possibility (h/t @Mass_Haas).

The Brewers do have an open spot on their 40-man roster at the moment, but Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that no deals are imminent to fill it with a reliever.  At this point the team seems content to wait until later in free agency and see if someone is available on a less expensive deal.

The Brewers did finally meet with a team on Wednesday for the first time during the meetings, and @Haudricourt speculates that it could have been the Red Sox regarding outfielder Allen Craig. The Brewers were rumored to be interested in Craig over the weekend, and Boston may be looking to unload him after he struggled mightily following a trade to the American League in July.

Former BrewCrewBall editor Kyle Lobner has produced the Frosty Mug each weekday since March 2008. That’s nearly 1500 Mugs across six years, a tenure that saw the project grow from a small daily diversion to an all-encompassing look at the Brewers universe. He brought the Mug to Milwaukee Magazine prior to the 2014 Brewers season. When Kyle's not writing about the Brewers or talking about them on the radio, you’ll often find the Appleton resident at the ballpark with his wife, Laura, or out for a walk with his dachshund, Gorman.
