MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Monday, Dec. 20: The Wildbirds Got Janked! (Benefit) at Yield Bar, 7 p.m. ($10 Donation)
Following a recent show in Chicago, The Wildbirds’ van was broken into. In all, the Milwaukee band was set back seven guitars and one brand new keyboard, totaling about $8,000. Fortunately for them, Yield and a number of local musicians were willing to play a benefit show for the accomplished alt rockers. Celebrated Workingman, Quinn Scharber, The Ragadors, The Delta Routine, Alan Cote, Hayward Williams, Shoot Down the Moon and – using instruments lent to them – The Wildbirds will play. If you can’t attend this great local show, you can still donate to the Birds’ cause HERE. (1932 E. Kenilworth Pl.)
Also: Sleigh Riders at Shank Hall, 7 p.m. ($12)
The holiday-centric project includes a member of Cheap Trick. (1434 N. Farwell Ave., shankhall.com)
Tuesday, Dec. 21: Sigmund Snopek at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 10 p.m. (FREE)
Aside from being a free show and one of the only shows occurring in town during this holiday week, this performance presents one of the state’s most accomplished musicians. Composer, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and long-tenured side band player Sigmund Snopek does his thing at the Riverwest venue. (1001 E. Locust Ave., linnemans.com)
Thursday, Dec. 23: Nolocontendre, IROCK Z and Jimmy at the Prom at Cactus Club, 10 p.m.
Three local rock bands descend on Cactus to employ cookie-cutter rock ’n’ roll cuts for people who want to hear live music in Milwaukee on Dec. 23 that isn’t being played by Pat McCurdy. There will always be a place for that. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)
Also: Pat McCurdy at Shank Hall, 9 p.m. ($6)
“I like my wife. She’s okay.” … and additional lyrics from this professional musician. (1434 N. Farwell Ave., shankhall.com)
Sunday, Dec 26: Trans-Siberian Orchestra at The Bradley Center, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ($25 and up)
If the month-plus of Christmas music everywhere, holiday gatherings, shopping-related stress and awkward family functions aren’t enough, Trans-Siberian Orchestra – the Monkees to the Beatles of the Christmas-themed rock opera that is Mannheim Steamroller – slides down the Bradley Center’s almost assuredly asbestos-laden chimney to deliver the yuletide deathblow by way of dramatic holiday rock epochs.
