“…an extremely interesting film to watch.”Rob Calvert, Premiere
“There’s about 10 good minutes out of 85.” Michael Phillips, The Chicago Tribune
As in Pineapple Express, Rogen loves to mix comedy with unnecessarily graphic violence in Observe and Report. The nonsensical title is befitting for a nonsensical movie about an overly ambitious mall cop out to catch a flasher. I wanted to root for the lovable loser who covers up his past-out mom (Weston), but Ronnie’s equally frustrating and repulsing as Rogen relies on shocking fits of violence that are anything but funny. While Faris excels as ditzy blondes, her cosmetic clerk isn’t the love interest we expect. O&R’s just as disappointing as it loses focus and doesn’t give Ronnie the redemption necessary to care if he’ll ever leave that mall.
