“…the strongest… entry in the series thus far.” M.E. Russell, Portland Oregonian
“…two and half hours of paralyzing tedium…” Rex Reed, New York Observer
The most foreboding Harry Potter movie yet is full of religious allegories, calls to destiny, mostly first-rate performances and spectacular special effects, yet it’s also less than magical. In the sixth installment of the series based on J.K. Rowling’s wildly popular books, Harry prepares for the final battle between good and evil by learning about Lord Voldemort’s dark past. Unfortunately, this mature, ominous story is awkwardly juxtaposed with the cheesy teen romances involving Harry (Radcliffe), Ron (Grint) and Hermione (Watson). Though diehard Potter fans will still drink this fanciful adaptation up like butterbeer, the film disappointingly glosses over Voldemort’s crucially important backstory and rushes the climactic, tragic end of the book.
